006 - Horticultural Jottings

The following images are from a book that I have entitled 'HORTICULTURAL JOTTINGS' - because that is what is written on the back cover and the title on the front was far too long! Have a look for yourself, and see what I mean!

On the inside front page is written: - 'Nature Study - J J Newport - 1905'

Inside there are some pages with titles at the top and grandfather, obviously, intended to draw something on them but, for some reason, he never did. I copied the pages, anyway. Some pages were totally blank, didn't even have a title, so, these I didn't copy. I did number my pages, as my grandfather had, and continued this onto some pages, at the back of the book, which were not numbered but, none-the-less, contained drawings.

Whatever is written in this book; whether it was from his own experience and experimenting or from other sources, one thing is clear from it and, in fact, all the other 'paperwork' he left behind - he was a clever man who was very interested in a wide range of topics and just had to 'know'.

It's a joy to do family history but when one member of the family has left so much information it's a delight to follow in his/her footsteps. As I read his words and looked at his sketches and the newspaper cuttings, I was taken back into a world that has long since vanished.

The images are shown in the form of a 'Flip' book, so you need to move the cursor over the top, right-hand (or left-hand) corner of each sheet (you wil see the corner bending over, ready to turn). Clicking on the corner will turn the page - the pictures appear in the order listed below.

To go back, just reverse what you did before. To enlarge or reduce the image, right click on the page or picture and select either 'zoom in' or 'zoom out'. If you zoom in, you will be able to read the title and, of course, the 'Back' button will take you to the previous web page!

[Steven Newport The original webpage utilised a 'Flip Book' which no longer worked so I have converted it into individual images which you can click on and view the page on in more detail. ]
