HS003 - A Photograph of Group II, at Hooe School.

On the back of the photograph is written, "Group II" and the first mention of splitting up the children into "groups" instead of "standards" appears in an entry in the School Log Book, on 30th March. 1908, so, most probably, the photograph was taken after 1908 but this is not proof.

Group II seems to comprise all girls (except for what looks like a boy, four in from the left on the front row, but could be a girl who had had her head shaved because of ringworm or a similar head complaint), which was not how the Log Books suggest that the group system was intended to be split. The intention seemed to be to split the children into groups according to age and, therefore, to a certain extent, ability.
