The manor of Hooe being given to the Abbey of Bec in Normandy, by Henry, Earl of Ewe, between A.D. 1096 and 1139, there was shortly after erected here an alien priory of Benedictine monks, attached to that foreign house, though sometimes reckoned as a parcel of Okeburn, its principal cell in England.
